Presentation of the 2010 Honour List Diplomas

The IBBY Honour List is a biannual selection of outstanding, recently published books, honouring writers, illustrators and translators from IBBY member countries. The IBBY Honour List is one of the most widespread and effective ways of furthering IBBY's objective of encouraging international understanding through children's literature. The titles are selected by the National Sections which can nominate one book for each of the three categories. For a country with a substantial and continuing production of children's books in more than one language, up to three books may be submitted for writing and translation in each official language.

The presentation of the 2010 Honour List. Diplomas will take place on Thursday September 9th, 2010. The books nominated for the IBBY Honour List will also be presented at the Special IBBY Honour List Round Table on Saturday September 11th, 2010..


Presentation of the 2010 IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Awards and celebration of 20 years of the IBBY-Asahi Awards

Sponsored by the Asahi Shimbun newspaper company, the IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award is given since 1986 biennially to two groups of institutions whose outstanding activities are judged to be making a contribution to reading promotion programmes for children and young people.

In 2010, the jury recognized the activity of the OSU Children’s Library Fund of Ghana (IBBY Canada), an Canadian charity that helps to initiate and stock libraries in Ghana, and of the Convenio de Cooperación al Plan de Lectura de Medellín, Colombia (IBBY Spain), a reading promotion project of the Taller de las Letras Jordi Sierra i Fabra Foundation in cooperation with the Medellín Town Hall.

On Friday September 10th, 2010, the Presentation of the winner’s projects will take place at the Palacio de Congresos, and the Gala Presentation of the 2010 IBBY-Asahi Awards will be celebrated at the Hostal dos Reis Católicos.


Bookbirds Correspondents’ meeting

Bookbird is a specialized journal on children’s and young adults’ literature published quarterly by IBBY, in cooperation with an international Editorial Review Board, guest reviewers and correspondents nominated by IBBY National Sections. The meeting of the correspondents of Bookbird will take place on Friday, September 10th, 2010.


Presentation of the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Awards

The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children’s books, presented every other year by IBBY to a living author and illustrator whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children’s literature.

The winners of the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Awards are the writer David Almond (United Kingdom) and the illustrator Jutta Bauer (Germany).

The Gala Presentation of the medals and diplomas for the winners of the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Awards will take place on Saturday September 11th, 2010 at the Palacio de Congresos, as a part of the Congress’ activities.


IBBY Forum

The IBBY Forum, a space for meetings of the IBBY National Sections and an opportunity for the exchange of experiences between the IBBY National Sections, will take place on Sunday September 12th, 2010.


IBBY General Assembly

As usual, the IBBY General Assembly will be celebrated at the end of the Congress, and the new Executive Committee of the organization and a new president will be elected for the next two years. The Assembly will take place on Sunday September 12th, 2010.
